Early Life

Arijit Singh was born on 25 April 1987 in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal to Kakkar Singh, a Sikh father, and a Bengali mom. His parental aunt led in Indian classical music, and his motherly grandma used to sing. His maternal uncle performed the tabla, and his mother also hummed and played the tabla. He studied at Raja Bijay Singh High School and following at the Sripat Singh College, a University of Kalyani affiliate.

He was trained in Indian classical music by Rajendra Prasad Hazari and encouraged in tabla by Dhirendra Prasad Hazari. Birendra Prasad Hazari prepared him Rabindra Sangeet and pop music. At the age of three, he began teaching under the Hazari brothers, and at the age of nine, he received a scholarship from the government for training in vocals in Indian classical music.

He loved to listen to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Zakir Hussain, and Anand Chatterjee and enjoyed listening to Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar and, Manna Dey.

Personal Life

Arijit Singh’s first marriage was with one of his co-contestants Koyal Singh who comes from a reality show but later got divorced from her. In 2014, he married Koyel Roy, a childhood friend, and a neighbor. They have two children. Koel was also previously married and has a daughter from her first wedding.
